Need info about antidepressants

i have an apointment to get meds tomorrow for severe depression and i just want to know if anyone on here is curently taking meds for depression and does it work?how long does it take to work?please need answers.

It all depends what anti-depressant you are prescribed.

I was on Paxil for several years, in varying doses. Normally the doctor will start you with the minimum doseage that they think will help, and go from there. Anti-Depressants typically take four-six weeks for their full effects to be shown. During this time, it is very important to take EXACTLY as prescribed and to report any unusual or unpleasant side effects to your doctor or pharmacist.. Don't be shy. This is very important.

The right medication can and will work. The trick is finding the right one and giving it a chance to work, and getting a good doctor that can properly diagnose you. Your pharmacist can answer a lot of questions, too.

everyone reacts differently to medication. It can take a few weeks for the meds to work.

I have been taking antidepressants for many years.

They can be very helpful.  It might take several weeks before you notice

the medication working.  Maybe you might begin to notice you can think more clearly.  You may notice that you don't feel like crying quite as much as you did.   I am glad you decided to try medication.  Sometimes when we are depressed and have lost all hope, taking medication can give us something to place our hope on once again.  I hope you will be feeling better very soon.

Anti-depressants typically take weeks or even months to build up effectiveness in your body.

I am on Wellbutrin-SR and have had positive results.
