My son is 4 yrs old, (born May 2004) a friend told me to take him to a PACE screening to get him to go to preschool... well i took him to a screening today and when I spoke to the councilor she told me his results were of a 6 year old. She said he is well advanced and that he would not be able to go into the PACE program. I don't really understand, how can they turn away a child for preschool... I'm wanting him in preschool this year but I have no idea about the US system. what can I do for him... as i'd like him to be in a social environment... because right now he's at home with me all day everyday and only has occasional play dates with friends.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated thank you

  1. Depending on where you live there are probably parent participation preschool programs that are public or low cost. Funding is augmented by the parents helping the teacher. It is a good experience for you and your child.

Look around, your city may offer programs, and there are many cost based programs.

I'm unfamiliar with your PACE program but it sounds like a type of Head Start program that helps children that are not at benchmarks to begin school catch up so they will be ready for kindergarten when they are old enough. These programs often only take children who need skills, or whose families qualify under some type of financial schedule.

    Good luck.

  2. PACE is a program for pre-school aged children who may be developmentally delayed.  Your son is not...be glad and rejoice!

Find a really good private pre-school program so he will continue to advance.

    Good luck!
