about two weeks ago got some gas and vehicle started cutting back and acting like it wants to cut off. when i'm sitting at a light or a stand still in traffic it acts like that. sometimes driving along it feels like it isn't getting any gas and then it just takes off. i've tried gas treatment, fuel injection cleaner, and even had spark plugs change, i cleaned the IAC(idle air control...the throttle body and still no difference... please give me some advice of what it could be or what should i try next.. thanks '01 expedition

  1. vaccum leak on intake or a bad sensor check for codes engine light on?

  2. It happened after you got gas right?  I would continue the gas treatment.  It sounds like you got more than a tea cup full of water in your gas tank and its going to take more than one or two applications to remove it, unless you want to take the tank out and pour the water out and start back over.

  3. replace the fuel filter - which should have been the first thing.

  4. Avoid cheap (in quality) gas!!! I know that's hard driving an Expedition ;) It sounds as though you got a bad tank. Try using some Techron by Chevron it comes in a concentrated form that I think is about 20oz for an SUV sized tank. They sell it at any autoparts store or Wal-mart. I also agree with the others that your fuel filter should be replaced (an every 30k miles service) and you should also have your catalytic converter checked. Ford officially recommends BP gasoline (which I think has allot to due with marketing) but a Top Tier gasoline won't hurt either. Top Tier gasolines have more detergent additives and certified additives that will not degrade the performance of your vehicle. Some of them are Phillips 66, Shell, Texaco, Chevron and a few others.

  5. First of all.. your problem is you bought a Ford! Just kidding!

I had the same problem with my Lincoln Navigator. I took it to soo many mechanics (dealers) and one mechanic even told me that one of my pistons was damaged. After months of trying to find out what was wrong with my car I finally took it to a "mom and pops" shop and they told me it was my catalytic converter. They told me that after using cheap gas for many years my catalytic converter was clogged and wouldn't allow exhaust gasses to escape fast enough. You should get your checked out and hopefully it's your cats because that is a cheap fix compared to anything else.... Hope this helps. Good luck!
