Need info on Apple TV?

Does Apple TV allow you to use it as a DVR also? Can you watch and record live TV with it? I know you can buy and rent movies via Itunes, but what I want to know is if it can be used for a DVR also. I was not able to find any info on the Apple website. Is there someone out there that owns one that can help? Also what is a good program to convert videos to Apple TV format? So if I have ripped DVD's what format do I need them in and what program can I use, or is there software that comes with Apple TV that does that?

You can try cucusoft dvd to apple tv converter suite, it can convert DVDs and videos like avi, mpeg, wmv etc t o mp4 or h.264 format, then you can add into itunes library, sync to your apple tv, it works great for me, easy and fast.
