Need info on adoption?

My momgot my real dad to sign the adoption papers, and he lives in a different state. so anyways will i have to go before a jugde? i live in ca if it helps any. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Could you explain further please?  Your real dad signed some adoption papers.  Is this because your step dad is adopting you?

I don't know the legalities involved.  However, if your real dad signed the papers I really doubt that you will need to see a judge.  And if you do, I don't see any reason for you to be nervous.  It's only a formality.  So don't be nervous.

I think it's great that your step dad cares enough about you to adopt you.

Perhaps someone on here who is versed in the laws of your state will answer.

You'll need to call your local family service center and find out if California is and "open" or "closed" state.  This means that either the adoption records are "open" or "closed."  But before you try that you may want to have a talk with your mom about it and tell her how you feel about being legally and geographically severed from your biological father.
