I like using the Rick Steves books for travel.  I've used them for Italy twice & Ireland once.

  2. I travel to Europe two to four times a year.  Leaving in three days for a month in Tuscany, Florence and Lake Como.  You will absolutely love Florence and will be going at the right time of the year.  Being this your first trip to Florence, it is best to pay more and stay in the city.  I can cut my hotel cost in half by staying 2 to 3 miles outside of the city and taking the train back and forth for 2 euros.  This time I am staying in a neat little town called Pontassieve at a B&B for 45 Euro per night that servers you breakfast in bed.  It is called Albergo I Villini!

One of the best web sites to go to for B&B and hotels is www.venere.com.  Venere.com has come a long way in a short time.  They were the first to have reviews from other travelers like you and me plus no down payments in most cases, the ability to cancel, and the best prices in comparision to other sites.
