I live in Galt, IL. right out side Sterling, IL. I was told by a lady who is at least 85, my house was the old Galt train station. I do live 100ft. from the tracks. I have found out there was some kind of train building here, but I can't find out what kind of building? Where can I look for free info or pics. I'm guessing it would have served Northwestern, and the Sterling Steel & Wire company. Is there away I can contact Northwestern Trains and ask them?? PLEASE HELP?

  1. Hmm, well, you're right Galt was situated along Chicago & North Western's main line, which stretched to Omaha, Nebraska.  I haven't been able to find any substantial information or pictures online of the area but that's not to say it isn't there.  In any event, I would say your best bet to find pictures and information on Galt is to contact the C&NW Historical Society (their site is attached below) as I'm sure that if anyone could help you with historical information regarding the town, they very much could.

  2. Hello, of the two links that Alco83 has given you, I'd definitely try and contact someone with the C&NWHS. I agree that would be a good place to try and find the information and photos that you seek.

In addition I would suggest going to your local library in Sterling, IL. also. Most local libraries have old photos and other information that you won't find on the internet. You may actually find photos of your house in it's original loctation and appearence.

Many times in the past when a railroad sold a building that was no longer needed, it was either dismantled or simply moved a short distance away from the property. I say this because you did state that you live 100 feet from the tracks.

There is a link to the Sterling Library, I've also given you a link to the Sterling / Rock Falls Historical Society, they may be able to help you out also.

Good luck in your search butterfly and solving the mystery!
