This legislation was signed into law by Gov. Hunt today. Allows adopted children easier access to sealed records, etc.

  1. If you find anything please keep me posted. I have been toying with the idea of finding my biological mother.  Thanks

  2. Where is it that you are looing for?

  3. Contact the local State Senator, and any U.S. Senator's

offices, and they will share information with you.

Go to a Law Library, and it should be available shortly,

since it is just put into effect.

  4. Based on your other post, you’re talking about the state of North Carolina.  Hunt is not the governor :)  Mike Easley is the governor.

This law (which takes effect in Jan 2008) doesn't actually allow the parties access to sealed records.  It allows an agency (ie the child placement) to act as a ‘intermediary’ between the biological parent and the child.  Meaning they will contact (or attempt to contact) the other party to see if that party wants to allow contact or allow non-identifying health information to be shared.  It requires the written consent of all parties to the contact/sharing of information.  And the agency can charge a fee for this.

  5. what state are you talking about?  The only recent state that I know of to allow easier access is ME and that does not go into effect until 2009 and was just recently passed.

  6. The official release on the state's website.
