I am looking in to moving to Ireland and was wondering if anyone can give me any info on anything there, for example, the average cost of living? Is it hard for foreigners to find jobs? Average temperature? Is it hard to find a place to live? Anything and everything you can think of would be great! Thank you so much!!!

  1. It's not hard for foreigners to find jobs, but you should be aware that if you are not an EU national, it will be quite hard as you would be quite far down the list - EU employers look for candidates from that EU country to employ first, if they can't find someone from that EU country they will look for suitably qualified candidates from another EU country, and only if they can't find someone from this pool of potential employees will they look for candidates who are not EU nationals. However if you have an unusual qualification that's in demand in Ireland, this won't be too difficult.

If you're not an EU national, you need to have your job organised before taking up residence in an EU country, and then your working permit will also have to be organised. You can't just walk in! EU nationals can arrive, register with the police and set in motion the application process for a residency permit and then go about finding a job and accommodation - they don't need a work permit.

Lots of foreigners now live and work in Ireland, but these are EU nationals, for the vast majority mainly.

Average cost of living? It varies from region to region. Limerick is relatively cheap, across the Shannon in Clare it's a bit more expensive. Dublin is just too much. You now need to be earning around 800 to 1000 Euro a week to live comfortably, run a car and a house, etc. This is for one adult.

Temperature. Haha. Good joke. At the moment there doesn't seem to be an average temperature. But it's very wet out.

It's hard to find a NICE place to live in Dublin city and environs unless you are very flush with cash. The rental market is much higher than it should be, but the property market seems to be finally levelling off. You will not find a house to buy within 10 miles of Dublin city centre for less that three quarters of a million Euro.
