Question:

Need information about animal shelters and policy?

I have been planning to take my dog to one of the no-kill shelters because I'm going through hard times and can't take care of him anymore. I can't afford a place that accepts dogs anymore, so I have to move to a much smaller apartment. Strangely enough, he ran away this morning, but a county worker found him (chasing cars on the highway!) and took him to the animal shelter.

Now the shelter wants $56 for me to get him back, but since I was planning on taking him there to be adopted anyway, will they just let me leave him there?

  1. some will but will ask you to sign him over, which is best to do right away so they can get him accessed for adoption quick..

give them all the dogs info - and a special toy or blanket.

this link might have some good info for you

its about getting rid of a pet you cannot keep - shelters are best place for them of course - but the link gives you great tips on helping the shelter to help your dog..

in the future do not get ANY pet until you own a home.

  2. You will probably have to come in, and sign some form of an owner's release. They may require a fee for accepting him. You'll need to provide all medical records for the dog, as well.
