Hi,

I am doing a research project on how animals and creatures act strange before possible severe weather storms. I am looking for articles and websites on the internet that talk about this and focus strongly on it.

Here is the specific bit of information that I have to analyze:

Ants are busy, gnats bite, crickets sing louder than usual, spiders come down from their webs and flies gather in houses just before rain and possible severe weather storms.

That is supposed to be folklore. And I need to find the origins of where it came from and prove how much of it is 'valid'.

So if anyone knows web sites or articles that they can link me too or give me the name of. That would be amazing.

Thank you so much in advance.

  1. In France it is believed that swallows flying low over the terrain is a sign of a bad weather advancing. It turns out to be true but it is because insects are active during that time and swallows are feeding on them. I don't know exactly why insects are sensitive to the drop in pressure preceeding e.g. a thunderstorm. It may have an evolutionary explanation that we don't yet understand.
