I'm only 5'7" so I'm wondering, do you think a lower level D1 school would want more than 2 libero's? I want to play for a certain school and my spot is outside hitter but since I'm shorter I doubt I'll get much attention so I thought about DS because I'm pretty good all around but they already have 2 L's so do you think it's worth a shot?

  1. If that is the school you really want, go for it.

You can like Vicki suggested and go to the school first and try out as a walk on.  You will not get a scholarship the first year.  If you make the team, you will get the scholarship the next year.  I would suggest talking with the coach first.  If they say there is no chance, try somewhere else.

If the coach does not give you any chance, you might try a junior college.  Two years at a good junior college program and you may be able to make the team at the D1 school you want.

  2. i'm in the same position as you. Im also 5'7'' and wanted to play for a certain school (san diego state).  I called and talked to the coach and he told me that they have a libero and a back up, but i was more than welcome to try out and if i was good enough i woul make the team, but he also told me that a lot of people walk on and since most aren't close to 6 foot they try out for libero. So you are competing with a lot of people. If your really want to do it, then go for it. you'll regret it if you don't. But honestly they, at the most, only take 3.
