Need information on what to do with asparagus plants grown from seed in pots now 18 inches tall?

  2. They're not going to be a lot of use to you in pots.  You eat the new shoots growing up from a crown.

    Plant them out in the garden and let the ferns grow.  In November, cut the ferns down to the ground and cover the crowns (that's the bit left in the ground) with 2 inches of compost.  In the spring, you'll get some new shoots.  Cut about half of them off when they are about eight inches long and eat them.  Let the rest grow into ferns to strengthen the crowns and cut them down the following November.  If you keep doing this, you'll get more and more asparagus each year.
