Question:

Need inspiration for photography shoot

I recently rediscovered my enjoyment/love of photography but I'm kind of blocked right now. There are a lot of state parks and naturie-type places where I live but don't have the money to really go explore them. So I'm hoping to find inspiration here. My brain is fried and I'm seriously stressed but for some reason when I take pictures the c**p in my head goes away for a little while (and every once in awhile I get a decent or two out of the shoot) So just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to re-spark my muse.

  1. I like to look through the flickr groups. Try typing in landscape or nature to find groups that meet your interest. They have a lot of pictures from various people.

  2. maybe you could take photos of squirrels, they would be in the park and are cute. ive never seen a photo of a baby squirrel so if you snap one it would be cool.

  3. Ok... you are suffering from what blocks most amateurs. You are looking at this totally backwards. You need to change your thinking from "taking a photo" and begin thinking in terms of "making a photo". There is a HUGE difference between the two. The reason you are blocked is that you are just in a reactive mindset. You are just seeking desparately for "something pretty" or "interesting" to present itself to you so you can just aim your camera at it and take a photo. This is NOT how any true photographer thinks. YOU need to be the one creating the photo, making a tangible product out of an idea.

Quit thinking in terms of random "nice" things to take photos of. Think in terms of a collection of photos for a theme. A theme can be ANYTHING. For instance I have taken shots of street signs with clocks. I have taken shots of a manuquin head with various scenes of buildings. I mainly use film for multiple exposures, but you can do lots with digital also.

Just think "MAKE THE PICTURE".... not... "take the picture".

You are welcome to browse my gallery on my website. It just might give you some ideas and inspiration.

  4. I like to look through magazines and tear out pictures that I like... I put them all together in a binder and when I need inspiration I go to them... sometimes I will even recreate some of them.

    Best of luck!
