  1. If you think this is a life or death situation, go to the hospital and tell them what is going on. Due to the Hippocratic oath that doctors take, I think they have to help you...but not necessarily make sure that your are comfortable. You also may be able to set up a payment plan with the hospital.

If your situation is not life or death, try talking to a family doctor. Tell them about your fiances, and see if they have any suggestions. They may have an idea about how you can get financial assistance with medical bills. Many doctors charge patients with out insurance less for visits.

        Good luck

  2. If it is an emergency, you must be treated at any hospital by federal law.  If it is not an emergency they will not and do not have to treat you.

Edit.  It does not need to be life threatening as several have stated.  Cutting off your toe is not life threatening, but is an emergency.

  3. You should contact the hospital's Social Services Department.

  4. By law, if you go to a hospital ER you must be seen by a doctor. The doctor will decide what is necessary. Most hospitals have financial assistance for patient's that meet the financial guidelines. You can contact the hospital about this prior to being seen.

Teaching facilities and county clinics are the cheapest way to go. Check your phone book to find these. They usually have a sliding fee schedule based on your income.

You may also qualify for medicaid in your state, but the eligibility requirements vary from state to state. Some require that you meet the federal guideline for disability if you have no children. It is easier for adults to qualify if they have minor children in the home. Google your state + medicaid to see.

  5. If it's a life threatening emergency, or you're ready to deliver a baby, yes.

If not, no.  You'll have to solve the money problem, and arrange to pay for the services you want to receive.

OR, you can see if there's a free clinic in your area.

  6. You can have no money but still sign an IOU to pay the hospital bill.   Or are you so sure that you will never have any money that you don't want to go to the hospital in the first place?

You can see a doctor at one of those Express Care clinics for $75.  THey might accept a promise to pay later.  I'd give it a try.  You'd see a doctor in 30 minutes and get some answers.  Otherwise , you'd be writing this to us from the Emergency Room.

Don't forget to check out www.medlineplus.com and www.webmd.com.  Some wonderful help for anything that ails you.

    Good luck.
