Need more info about form I-9?

If you think someone that applied for a job may be undocumented? how do I find out? after the employee filling from I-9 how long does it take to find out? what if they are hired before we get the papework info? I don't wanna end up in trouble for discrimination before I find out ..... just curious

  1. You are not obligated to hire them until paperwork is done. Since Nov 1986, all new hires have been required to complete an I-9 form and provide back up identification and employment eligibility documents. If you have work authorization, you have nothing to be concerned about. If you do not have adequate documents, your Employer could be fined for hiring you without certifying your eligibilty to work on the I-9.When E-Verify cannot confirm a worker's eligibility, it issues the employer a "tentative nonconfirmation." If nonconfirmed workers do not present themselves at federal government offices within eight days for review of their papers, the government issues a "final nonconfirmation," barring them from working at their new jobs.
