Question:

Need new auto insurance policy; have history of non accidental damage to rental car

I have been renting cars before, but now I am buying a used car tomorrow for the first time. I am planning to get new policy with AAA for the car insurance. I recently got my driving license. 2 months back, unknowingly I had a non-collision damage to an insured rental car. I think I hit the curb and there was a dent in the car below right side front door. I had comprehensive insurance, so I got away with no problem then. Rental car company(Enterprise) told me that it's OK since I have comprehensive coverage.

Now , since I need to take car insurance tomorrow, do i need to tell AAA auto insurance agents about this incident. I guess if I tell them about it, my premiums will increase. I would appreciate if I can get a quick response.

  1. whatever you do, don't call it "non accidental"...I thought you were talkin bout "intentional" damage!

  2. They will find out anyways since they run your driving record.

If the claim was paid under comprehensive then they thought it was a vandalism claim.  Otherwise if you did it, it would be a  collision claim.

So, I think you got lucky.   Comprehensive would probly not count against you, only collision would.   But don't mention it, let them figure it out and let you know.
