Hey everyone my sister just gave me her ('95?) Jeep Grand Cherokee while she is going away to college. She is taking the main key and remote with her and gave me the valet key. Is there any way I can buy another remote and how much do you think it will cost?

  1. The only thing a valet key won't allow you to do is lock and unlock the glovebox.

The key fobs on the early Grand Cherokees use infrared and are difficult to find aftermarket (and are very expensive from the dealer), and generally not worth bothering with anyway.

  2. You can buy one for about $185.

Why would she let you have the car to use without the main key and remote?  That seems stupid unless she doesn't mean for you to drive it, but just to have a key in case it needs to be moved, etc.

added comment:  The valet key will not operate the locks other than the front door and the ignition.  If the tailgate is locked, you cannot unlock it with the valet key.  Same thing if it has a locking gas cap, glove box or extra locking storage area.

She should leave you the key and you can give it to her when she comes home (after all it IS her car and you are grateful for the ride while she is away, right?)

  3. i was going to say, wow nice sister. lol. you can get a key from dealer but why not just go to the hardware store and hace one made off the original before she goes
