Question:

Need new shoes?

okay, so i rested for about two weeks after track season ended, and i recently got back to running. So i ran with my trainers (with 275 miles on them) and ran with them. I ran pretty easy, but i noticed my feet hurt more than usual, and i realized i had blood blisters. I've never had blood blisters before, so i was pretty shocked. I know my shoes don't have too many miles, but i was wondering if they might be worn out and have caused the blisters? so should i stick with this pair, or get some new ones?

  1. 275 isn't very much. Most decent shoes will last 500-600 miles. The blisters are more likely a result of not running for a while and your skin softening up a bit. I would try running in them for at least a week straight before deciding whether they are worn out.

Blisters can be caused by shoes that are too big (your feet slide around and rub against the shoe), shoes that are too small, socks that are too thick, socks that are too thin, wet shoes/socks, etc. It's unlikely the shoes are the wrong fit, but try to pay attention to exactly what is causing the blisters and you should be able to make the right adjustment.

  2. In your position I'd be buying a different shoe completely. Go and get fitted again and see what they recommend.

Also, be sure you're buying shoes a half size up from what you normally wear. When you run your feet swell and this could be part of the reason for your blisters.

  3. You should try some new ones, if you still have that problem and they really hurt, you should consider seeing a doctor
