I currently own a 60" Philips Rear Projection...Have had the tv now for almost 5 years and the bulbs are slowly starting to go one by one....So instead of fixing it im just buyin a LCD...Here is what I have it narrowed down to

47" Philips

46" Sony

46" Sharp

46" Vizio

The philips has the highest contrast ratio at 29000:1

The Sharp is 7500:1

The Sony is 2500:

The Vizio is 2000:1

Is contrast Ration really something big to consider? They all have at least 2 HDMI inputs Some have 3...Can someone tell me what KEY FACTORS I need to look in b4 buying?

I somewhat asked this question yesterday...but looking around today i added 2 more choices and have more questions now

  1. Contrast ratio and response time are both important factors with LCD. The faster response time and higher contrast ratio the better, in general. You also need to consider the electronics (especially color rendition and conversion). Out of the names you mentioned, the Sharp would be my first choice (Sony is good but that contrast ratio makes me think it's one of last years models). The Philips showing 29,000:1 is not a true contrast but a dynamic (manipulated) one.

This about.com article is a little old but I think it should be helpful

  2. Some other things you should consider other than just the contrast ratio is, if its 1080p or 720p OR if its 120Hz.

You should go with the Samsung V Series, the Touch Of Color Model. It has a 50,000: 1 ratio, 1080p, AND 120Hz. These are all aspects that will benefit u in the future.
