  1. No, a jester is, or was an actually profession. They were "fools" or entertainers to royalty. Their job was to keep the king amused. A lot of times they became confidants to them due to their position, which gave them close proximityy to the king. Good example in literature of a King and his relationship with his "fool" is Shakespeare's King Lear.
