I gained my computer engineering degree 5 years ago, but due to many reason that I didn't pursue the career. I worked in the international trading industry

I always want to go back to the IT industry, I am interested in becoming a networking technician. But without any working experience, where should I start?

  1. Do you have any IT certifications?  If you want to get into networking, I would suggest you look at getting both a CCNA and CCIE.  They are both very popular Cisco certifications.

  2. Hopefully I may can help a little.  I am about graduate with a degree in IT/Computer Networking.   I learned that certifications go a long way.  Start out with an A+ and Net. Comptia has some good books.  That is where I would start. I am not sure if your wanting to go back to school or just looking for a job?  Also if you can stand a technical support job it looks good to a lot of employers.Even if you do it for say  6 months.   Try out a demo of Vmware Workstation as Virtual Servers are popular in the industry today. The biggest thing is just playing around with the different OS"s. Microsoft Technet has some good resources. Also make  a decision if your wanting to me on the microsoft side or the Linux side as far as a network admin.   Remember a lot  of times you have to start at the bottom and work your way up.  The biggest thing in the industry at present is visualization (virtual servers).Volunteer for any community work you can do such as installing computers for churches schools etc..this can go on a resume. Hope this helps.
