Need some advice on preparing for a boxing match?

i am going to box my friend in the end of summer and i need some suggestions in preparing for it. My plan is to lift heavy weights to get buff from now until the start of summer, so i could have some power in my shots. Then in summer, i would lift low weights and a lot of reps, get cut, and do cardiovascular workouts like running to get my heart in shape.

Please give me any suggestions of how i can make my workout plan more effective thanks

  1. spar alot, and all your focusing on is getting cut, your boxing, not picking up chicks, work with the bag alot, agility exercises are good, but sparing and bag work and cardio are more important than weights

  2. Well it looks like your all set for Strength training and conditioning but you mentioned no boxing work what so ever. Practice technique you need to master all punches. jab left hook. straight right

Hit the heavy bag, speed bag, double end bag and get some sparring in there.

Also medicine ball work out on your body/abs

  3. That seems good for strength training, but have you considered your accuracy? If you want to train your accuracy, I just fill a 2 or 3 liter soda pop bottle about three quarters of the way full with water and suspend it from a tree with old shoe lace. You can swing it and test your accuracy in hitting a moving target somewhat close to the size of a human head.

  4. Hey man, nobody has mentioned "CONDITIONING"!!  Looking fit from lifting weights, etc.. is only one dimension of boxing but the most important of all is conditioning and proper sleep.. You can't do ANYTHING in the ring in terms of effective boxing, until you're conditioned right.. That's one of the many reasons why you see the champions and top contenders, isolate themselves and go to a camp or even retreat to train...

If you don't like running (jogging), you better start because your cardio in the sport of boxing is everything, be it amateur or pro........'gotta jump rope for endurance, timing and rythm, etc..If you're fighting this Summer, I would say that with arduous training, you'll have time enough to command the basics...But most of all, be true to  yourself.. Boxing isn't just a sport, it's a lifestyle if you're serious.. That's my humble opinion.

  5. 75% of your training should be on boxing technique.   A good jab and footwork will beat a big strong unskilled guy every time.

Work on all of your punches daily:  Jab, left hook, right cross, upper cut.

Shadow boxing in a mirror can help when you don't have sparring partners.  Practice throwing punches from all angles for three minutes at time followed by a one minute rest.  Do this three times daily.

  6. get good sleep
