Need some advice on step parent adoptions?

My husband is adopting my four kids from my first marriage, we talked and paid to the attorney today and from what we were told this should be a simple adoption. I don't know where my ex is, he was very abusive to me and the kids and he has not paid any child support or kept insurance on them since he was court ordered to. The attorney told us that even if they find him and serve him and he is stupid enough to show up, the court would more than likely terminate his parental rights due to the abuse (two of the kids see a therapist weekly because of it), but still I am still so stressed over it and afraid that he is going to show up and cause problems for my family. Has anyone been through this and if so please tell me your experience---was it worth it?

  1. It would be easier for you if he would sign over his rights. If there is no one to contest it you will have an easier time.
