Need some articles to prove to my mom that Oil is not the answer!?

Question

I told my mom today that gas went up to 3.79 !! And she freaked out on my and said we should use our own oil in the US. I tried telling her that is not the answer and we should look into alternatives instead of using fossil fuels.

I was wandering if anyone has some good artiles or websites about the subject so I can send it to her.

Right now, in terms of price, it's the only answer really.

But don't worry, soon the alternative fuels will really kick in, I hope.

Actually, your mom is right.  Oil is the answer.  The sad reality is that, yes, right now the prices are at record highs, but it's still the cheapest, most abundant and efficient fuel we have.  The reason is it is so expensive right now is for a few different reasons.  First, because oil is sold on a global market, other countries are buying it as well as the US.  It's a matter of supply and demand.  India and China are both booming economies that are demanding more and more oil, meaning the supply is becoming more scarce driving up the cost.  Couple that with our current sluggish economy and the weak value of the dollar, meaning it requires more dollars to purchase oil on the global market than it did a few years ago.  The truth is, we can have cheap oil.  But it's a matter of convincing government to allow the companies to drill in the areas it's abundant such as off the coast of Florida, in the Dakotas and Alaska.  We have the technology to safely drill and transport it to where it needs to go.  Then along with that we haven't constructed an oil refinery in this country for 30 years which would be able to handle a higher volume of processing for the country which would lessen the price.  The truth is, radical environmentalists keep blocking the country's efforts to drill for our own resources and build new refineries because they keep claiming we need alternatives or it damages the environment.  What they don't tell you is all the alternatives consume just as much energy, are less efficient and are more expensive requiring government subsidies to just make them viable and the damage to the environment is minimal given today's modern technologies.  So, yes, your mom is actually correct in saying we need to get at our own oil to lessen the price burden on the nation.

Your mother has been misled as the world has been misled.   Fossil fuels have been used because they can be controlled so a few can hold the economic power and prosper at the expense of the environment and our health.

These 2 books are conprehesive and understandable on the fossil fuel timetable and offer ways to avoid a miserable callamity.
