ok i have asked my dh forever to do this and he is about to deploy so like always i am going to do this like how i learned to install a ceiling fan. we got some wood for our bed b/c the bed lays on an incline and needs more supportive bars. i have 3 boards around 1 1/2 or so inches thick i need to trim about 5 or so inches off of them all i have is a hand saw will that work? i am not some weak little woman i can move furniture and do things myself just curious if a hand saw will work and how long it may take. also any good screws to buy and any brackets i could buy to install some shelves in a closet? thanks to everyone in advance i am new to wood projects. ever time i talk to my father i forget to ask so i thought i'd give this a try.

  1.    All go advice  but a step farther..Mark your board to length and use the saw as a square. The handle fits up to the board  so you can mark it for a straight line.. First "draw back " cut will be the first and when you go forward you don t have to apply a lot of pressure.. Let the saw glide back and forth till you get the feel for it.. Find studs in the wall and mark.. Should be [but not always} 16  inches apart.. s***w into those, pre drilling  w/ a slighly small drill bit   will make the screws go in easier  GL

  2. cutting the boards with a hand saw can be done. As to the speed it depends on the person. As for the brackets and screws go to a home improvement store. They can recommend the right brackets and s***w lengths depending on how heavy the items you have that you wish to store on them. Good luck

  3. A hand saw will work fine as long as it's real sharp. You will need wood srews and Home Depot,Lowe's or any hardware store will have regular shelf brackets that comes with the necessary screws. You just s***w them into the wall and then lay the shelf across the brackets. Good luck.

  4. If you can learn to install a ceiling fan you can do these other projects real easy. A hand saw will work great just remember measure twice cut once.If you go to home depot or lowes they will show you how to install shelves real easy. Good luck on your projects.
