  1. For elves, dark elves and dwarves I would suggest books by R. A. Salvatore (Drizzt Do'Urden is a dark elf)

For dragons try the Dragon Riders of Pern series by Anne McCaffery. Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini are also good.

For Wizards try David Eddings and Terry Goodkind.

Vampires and werewolves are a bit harder for me. The much talked about Twilight series is good as are the Vampire Lestat books by Anne Rice. I would like more suggestions in this area.

Some other fantasy authors I enjoy are: Kristen Britain (Green Rider series) Tamora Pierce (Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen) Garth Nix (anything) and Cornelia Funke (Inkheart series)

  2. eh ill try and list some of the ones i read that fit and a brief description, hope this helps :)

wizard of earthsea (the earthsea cycle) by ursula k. leguin-you can probably tell from the title, but the series is mainly about a wizard and his life.  probably my favorite fantasy series.  i guess its a bit like lotr

amulet of samarkand (bartimaeus trilogy, i hope i spelled that right, i havent read this one in a while >_>) by jonathan stroud-funny series, much lighter than the earthsea novels but still good fantasy :D story of a sorcerer whos kind of a brat and demons.  if u do read it, be sure to read the footnotes!

sunshine by robin mckinley- post-apocalyptic, but u can think of it as modern too, vampire novel.  NOTHING like any of the stupid vampire novels that come out now (*cough* twilight *cough*)

(this one doesnt really fit ur likes that well i guess, but i love it so im putting it on anyway) golden compass (his dark materials trilogy) by philip pullman-i think everyone just loves this series...about a girl and then later a boy who end up killing "god"

(i personally didnt really like this one that much, but it fits and some people do seem to) eragon (inheritance trilogy) by christoper paolini-not the best writing, but good for the authors age i guess.  i feel like it ripped off a lot from other fantasy novels, but the storylines all right...i guess.

okay hope you find something you like in that really long list :D

  3. if you like creepy, and i mean really creepy, try 'unwind' i forget the author. it's dark, and strange, but its wonderful. it is more sci-fi though...

uhh... dragon slippers is very good, i can't recomend it enough, and 'samuel blinks in the forgotten forest' slightly juvinel, its great.

and then theres the dreamwalker’s child , with odd insect ish creatures, very good, with a sad ending : (

    oh!

Hero and the Crown shows dragons in a new light, and its amazing, and so isrunemarks, which is baesd slightly on norse mythology

    also

    The Night Land

    by William Hope Hodgson

[O]ne of the strangest visions ever published in science fiction or fantasy is presented. The Sun has gone out: the Earth is lit only by the glow of residual vulcanism. The last few millions of the human race are gathered together in a gigantic metal pyramid, the Last Redoubt, probably the first arcology in literature, under siege from unknown forces and Powers outside in the dark. These are held back by a Circle of energy, known as the "air clog," powered from the Earth's internal energy. For millennia, vast living shapes - the Watchers - have waited in the darkness near the pyramid: it is thought they are waiting for the inevitable time when the Circle's power finally weakens and dies. Other living things have been seen in the darkness beyond, some of unknown origins, and others that may once have been human.¡ª Excerpted from The Night Land on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
