  1. I ride Western, but my friend has a registered Quarter horse she owns, and he's always done dressage, and done very well at it.

  2. OMG NO NO NO NO NO NO NO...lol I HATE WHEN PEOPLE THINK THAT!!! My horse is living PROOF hahaha he is an AWESOME hunter/jumper and would be the worst western pleasure, barrel racing, or pole bending horse ver lol (he might do okay in calf roping or herding whatever lol but idk)

Quarter Horses are know for being VERSATILE not for any particular activity they are good at lamost everything. Yes TB's and WB are more common in English Riding so are QH's and QH crosses :) QH are very common in the western activities only because they do it the best not because that is all they do xD

Sorry, I just had to defend that...that is the second on my list of "pet - peeve" questions xD (first is "Is horse back riding a sport?" OMG it is in the olympics duh)

Most people who say QH"s are only westen have never ridden one english and most who ask if it is a sport ahve never truely ridden a horse lol

Oh, and I own a chestnut QH gelding named Little Big Man aka: Buckshot 15.2hh he can be a total butt, stubborn as a mule, and annoying as a two year old but he is VERY intellegent and loves people...oh and he is greedy but he makes up with his bad things with his intellegients, PERSONALITY,and he is just overall a good horsie :)

  3. My QH is a good jumper.

  4. One of the QH at our barn is, in my opinion, doing the wrong job. He is currently used for therapy and lessons, but he is very lazy and bored, and just bucked off a new rider today. I think he needs something to occupy his time, like working cattle and other Western stuff. I don't think all QHs are like that, but that's just the situation he's in right now. He really likes running barrels and cutting turns fast, and he just doesn't get enough of that sitting in his stall most of the day, and walking and trotting for most of the lessons/ therapy sessions. He used to jump, but he's gotten really fat over the past year or so. He definitely fits the stereotype, lol.

I think that as long as a horse is happy with what it's doing, it doesn't matter what the specialty is that everyone thinks that breed was "meant for" or stereotyped as.

  5. Chubs is my paint Quarter horse that is an all around great horse good for anything. anyone who said quarter horses are only good for western are so ****** dumb. they must not have one brain cell left.

    quarter horses are everything horses.

the can race, trail, jump, cutting, dressage, anythin!!

i do barrels on my qh, along with learnin to jump, endurance, and much more.

  6. Zippoty Dude Doll, a.k.a. Zippa -- I own her

Registered QH -- 9 yrs old

Fading black, looks almost buckskin right before the new coat -- 15.1

    Registered as Zippoty Dude Doll

No "set" job, we do trail riding, english, she used to do western, she jumps really well, and mostly I ride bareback, and I think we're pretty all-around!

NO WAY! I hate it when people stereotype QH's as the slow, broke by 2-y.o., Western Pleasure horses. Sure, some do, but my QH jumps 4ft! I could see her doing dressage too, but we haven't done too much of that. I love them, they're so versatile. But I'll take almost any breed of horse as long as I like their horsenality and disposition (and talent!).

  7. I don't think that there is a more versatile breed than the Quarter Horse in the world. They come in every size, shape and color. They can have all sorts of temperaments. I don't think I know of one thing a Quarter Horse can't do hat another breed can. Besides, they look ten times better doing it! =]

    Owned QH's for 42 years.

  8. Quarter horses belong to the 'stock horse' group of breeds.  However, they are a very versatile breed.  You only need to run a search on "AQHA Congress Class List" to see this.  And because many Quarter Horses are of the 'appendix' type (meaning that they are up to 7/8 thoroughbred), a registered Quarter Horse can be tall and leggy or short and stocky, or anywhere in between.  Thoroughbreds are well represented in Show Jumping and other English disciplines, so it is not a stretch for a horse who, though registered Quarter Horse, is 7/8 thoroughbred, to be an excellent jumper.  Each animal has to be evaluated seperately.  It's not as simple as "Quarter Horses are good at reining, and Warmbloods are good at Dressage".

  9. Sir Raleigh Wyatt

    AQHA - 6yr

Dun - 16.1 hands (big boy!)

    Eventer/Hunter/Jumper/Dressage

    Still in Training

    Free jumps 3'

    Courses 18 in to 2ft

    Almost flying lead changes

I compete and show with my horse, we do all english. He was broke to ride as a baby under western teachings, but since I've had him for the past year and a half we have done all english since that is what I ride. He does SOOO WELL at it. He has the cutest form, we got a first place in our very first hunter's class, and he was competing with TB's, warmblood's etc, but his form was just as good. He's also a lot taller than most QH's, which might help us in the enligsh discipline. He is definately more suited english than western. It is sort of annoying to tell people you have a quarter horse and they assume you do barrel racing or something. QH's are just very versitile and amazing horses!

  10. I love QH!!! I have learned to ride on one and i currenly own a Appendix QH.

    Max--Owned

    7 yr old

    Appendix QH

    15.2 HH

    Sorral--Diamond

    Western pleasure (show)

    Registered (JWS Fancy Dan)

    QH

    15 HH

    Sorral--stripe

Scotch Bar Time was his Daddy

SCOTCH BAR TIME has proven to be one of the all time great Quarter Horse sires! He is the only stallion to ever be on all twelve of the leading sire lists - halter, performance, youth, amateur - every single category! None of the other great sires, past or present, have been on all twelve lists even once. SCOTCH BAR TIME is on all twelve consistently. (paragraph from the owners website)

  11. :3.

I have a Quarter Horse that I'm riding for dressage, she always gets the highest levels in intro - I'm just starting her into dressage :)

    Bunny

    Qh- 9 years old

Dun (dark points, zebra striping, dorsal stripe :)) -- 15 hh maybe 15.2

Dressage/jumper (for play)/trail horse / anything else I want to do (including shooting off her back!)

  12. I used to own a QH

    Big Boy-owned

    registered AQHR QH-18

    dark bay-14.6

    registered(KIngs jewel lll)

    Ridable-retired grand champion roping horse

And I think that QH's are better with western on             But they are just such amazing horses that I am pretty sure you can put any other saddle on them.       Keep rid'in and have fun do'in it................P.S. Thank you for supporting our QH's by saving this amazing breed

  13. Well in my opinion, QHs can be the most versatile breed around.  My favorite old AQHA horse, was my fence horse (Saved my tush over my one and only 6' fence), I used to rope off of him (headin'), my Huntseat horse, my western pleasure horse and when things got REALLY tight, my lesson horse.  If I wanted to do it, he'd try it.

My favorite lesson horse is now 18, he used to be a reinging horse before he went navicular, but with epona shoes he's my western lesson horse, my huntseat lesson horse and keeps all the others in line.

My nine year old AQHA broodmare(Former halter mare with points), has made 5 NICE babies.  Her latest is a big palomino filly (Apr 25th).

My 3 yr old AQHA filly is just getting started and is the daughter of the broodmare and although she's got a flaxen mane and tail, she trots so level, she's going huntseat!
