  1. The market is all about trends.  So you need to be aware of what is happening in the news.  Let's say there are numerous stories about companies in your area that have call centers and they are outsourcing the jobs to India.  This means that a career in a call center is probably not a good choice.  Ditto for working in an auto plant - they are laying off left and right these days...very little opportunities.

Some say jobs in pharmaceuticals is where it's at, others insist it's anything in computers.  You just need to be aware of what is happening and translate your skills to it.

One of the big chuckles is that those people that get a degree in humanities get jobs where they can say 'do you want fries with that?' bcz the thought is supposedly that a humanities degree gives you nothing but soft skills (so more people focused )and that does not translate to a job in the way a degree in math or science does.   If you are seeking a job, the trick is to translate your skills to be marketable in a broad sense.

    Hope that helps.
