Need some help on picking out a rice rocket?

ok, so I've been riding a street legal dirtbike for about 5 years now, its a 200cc. I feel that I am ready to take a step up to a new bike that will go a bit faster than 50mph. (my bike only goes about 50 tops) and am interested in getting a 400cc rice rocket as I cannot see myself on a "cruiser" type bike. So I was wondering if someone has any suggestions on a good bike for me. Preferably one that I can be a bit more upright on and not so crouched down over the gas tank.. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, I just want it to get me from point A to point B.

thanks everyone!!

  1. The bikes are called sportbikes, not rice rockets.

The type of bike you're looking for is a "standard" - upright seating position with no fairings for aerodynamics.

They're not popular in the US and are being phased out by sportbikes and cruisers.

You might have to buy a used bike.

  2. I recommend a Suzuki Katana. They allow you to set upright more than the others and are generally less expensive. Any Katana will go faster than 100mph. I would get a 600 though. It is a good idea to be afraid of the bike you ride, this keeps you in check. If you think you have mastered it, then you are looking for trouble....

  3. Good luck finding a 400cc sportbike since they don't exist in production today.

Rice rocket? What is that? I think it's called a sportbike.

If you like dirtbike ergonomics I would recommend a Kawasaki Ninja 650R, Kawasaki Versyes, Yamaha FZ6, or a Suzuki GS650F

  4. Since you already have experience with a bike, I recomend a 600. Specifically the '01 + Honda cbr f4i. This is one of the faster sport bikes. The bike has more of upright seating. Has enough power to do 130+ mph. Will get at least 30 mpg. There are "slower" bikes if you don't want a 600. Look into the ninja 500.

  5. Ive got a Kawasaki zrx1100, fast bike, nice ride, and a price that's affordable.

  6. I drive a 1997 Honda CB 400 super four. It is a nice bike.

Mine needs a bit of work done but it is still riding well and has never let me down (and I drive a bike every day to and from work)

You sit quite upright on the bike so you have excellent visibility.

My only criticism is that there is not windscreen so at high speeds I am buffered by the wind.

I was checking online and they still make them. Apparently they are Honda's biggest selling bike in Japan.

  7. Ckeck out the gsxr, honda, ect. They all have rockets that you can be alittle more upright and not laying on the tank.

  8. Yes,

Check out a Buell Blast 500cc, it won't bore you, and they are geared nice for the road, with a relaxed stance.

A Buell Blast has half a Harley engine, but is a nice little thumper.  Easy to handle, and has a great feel and riding position.

You are probably a better rider than a Honda Rebel, but those are excellent bikes for a beginner.  Hope to see you out there!
