  1. Compare electricity to the flow of water (few people understand the similarity).

Use a battery (car, large lantern cell, set of cells, etc.) a variable (rotating?) resistor, a load (suitable rated) light bulb, a switch and circuit wires.

Make an equivalent 'water circuit' with a standing tank of water (battery), variable resistor (valve), a load (small clear plastic chamber with something inside that moves with current) a switch (pinch clamp) and circuit tubing.

The battery supplies electrical pressure like the tank supplies liquid pressure.  The variable resistor controls current flow like the valve controls water flow.  The bulb light varies with flow like the 'indicator' in the plastic chamber and the switch isolates current like the pinch valve isolates water.

Of course, include a circuit diagram (electrical and hydraulic) as well as the formulas for electrical flow (E = IR and P = EI).
