i'm trying to re-do my resume and i want to spice it up and add things i forgot to add the first time.... i just have a couple questions and feel free to leave comments or pointers!

1. what are some good things to add on a resume to make yourself sound professional?

2. i was very active in HS and did lots of activities and was in a lot of groups/teams...how many is too many?

3. i didn't do very many activities in college since i was so busy but the only 2 i can think of are speech and debate/forensics teams and i was chapter sweetheart of this guy i dated's frat....is saying i was a chapter sweetheart too silly to add during college years? (i guess i thought it made it sound like i was active in greek life without having to be in a sorority)

4. and i sell avon currently since i'm a SAHM and i don't know if that's ok to put down on a resume......

any help would be very much appreciated!!!

  1. how old are you? what kind of job are you looking for?

    1. to make yourself sound professional, write concisely. use the best vocabulary you can, break out the $.25 words you learned in HS and college.

    2. if you're out of college, you shouldn't need to list HS activities. curb your list to those that will be of interest to the person reading the application. EX: if you're applying for a science-related job, don't list all the language activities (a few are good, but not all). write your resume to highlight the skills suitable to the position you're going for.

3.list your college activities. your frat date is social NIX IT.

    4. you are currently employed and you shouldcertainlyy list that. no need to mention that you're a SAHM; that might come up in the interview if you get one; but it's not necessary to list SAHM on a resume.

    good luck!

  2. Did you look up Resume's on yahoo?  If you go to Yahoo jobs or Career builder or monster.com they will also give you several really good pointers on resumes. :)

    Hope this helps.

  3. They want to know your work history, not the fun things you did in school. You don't need to list any of the things you did in school. Mainly just list what kind of work you've done in the past. They won't want to hear about who you dated ! It's all about WORK !
