Need some help with laser pointer / burning flashlight?

I saw the same videos/DIYs about 100 times, but the guy talks way too fast and I'm fairly new to the whole laser thing. If somebody could please give me a more detailed description on how to build a laser, (preferably a burning flashlight one) for under $30 I would much appreciate it.

These are very dangerous. A brief flash in your eye or someone else's eye causes PERMANENT vision loss.

Even worse, a reflection from a surface can cause the same PERMANENT vision loss. Even through a window and outside to a passing pedestrian.

When these are used in industry, they are used in special rooms with limited access, and with everyone required to wear special protective glasses.

So unless you are looking for years in jail, or not being able to read for the rest of your life, I'd find another toy.
