  1. Right...and what help do you need exactly?

  2. what is the criteria asking you-has it posed a question, an example of a sitaution, does it want evidence, what knowledge and skills does it relate to?

It'll be looking at things such as:

    -Policies

-Laws and legislations (inc: Every Child Matters)

    -Layout

    -Staff-CRB checks, training etc.

-Personal care, first aid and food safety.

    -Allergies and intolerance

    -Medication children may be on

-Security such as doors, windows, fire guards, outdoor space.

    Good evidence would be:

-Witness statement from someone you work with of how you have washed kids hands, helped tidy etc.

    -Evidence of the policies

-Any training you've had such as first aid.

-Copies of the cleaning rota, staff rota etc with an explanation.

  3. It is easier if you ask a direct question as most of us don't have access to the units.

  4. Here is what I wrote for my CDA resource.  Please don't copy it, I am just posting it for an example!  Best wishes!

Goal I:  To establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment.

I understand that as a caregiver for preschool age children: it is my duty to ensure that the environment is safe and inviting.  I am careful to check electrical outlets for protective covers and that cords do not dangle from high areas (as it may be too tempting for inspired minds learning about gravity).

My First Aid and CPR certifications are kept current.  I am aware of designated fire exits and storm-approved areas; and have first aid supplies well-stocked.  I talk with children and families about the fire alarm and make a point of remaining calm and upbeat during a fire drill; cheering for the children for doing such a good job!

Although a custodian cleans our facility nightly; I regularly clean and sanitize the classroom and materials.  Paper towels are utilized in our bathroom and children are well-schooled in the art of hygienic practices.

Immunization records for each child are rigorously reviewed so I may provide parents or guardians with reminders if necessary when their child or children require vaccinations.

Classroom arrangement is a priority.  Learning centers are labeled with the maximum number of “friends” who may participate in the particular activity at one time.

Outside play areas are well-maintained: I report any possible hazards immediately which I cannot correct myself.

It is my goal to prevent accidents and injuries among the children for whom I am responsible and to teach them to make healthy choices for themselves.
