I work in a nursery with 15 children and was wanting new ideas on how to stimulate them as well as teach them in craft and activity sessions. We usually do painting of some sort, smelly pictures, stamping with veg, finger painting etc. But would appreciate some new ones.

  1. finger paint with shaving cream or let them drive vehicles through like snow - play doh - stamps - stickers - markers -collages, marble painting (put a piece of paper in a bucket, dip the marble in paint and let them roll it around), coffee filter flowers (food coloring with eye droppers), cupcake liner flowers, glitter - the list goes on and on......

  2. Hand printing, just coloring, mabey finger puppets, or you could just make play-dough, collages.

  3. cut up pieces of tissue paper and let them stick to clear contact paper, or you can do this with sequins.  Paint with glue and sprinkle with glitter or colored sand.  Paste colored macaroni to precut shapes.  For a mess free project, place a paper plate in a zip lock bag with some paint and let them "fingerpaint".  make "color collage"  I tape a piece of contact paper (sticky side up) to the table and the put out a variety of items (all one color).  Painting on tinfoil makes great "rainbow fish"  palce a piece of paper in a coffe can or ice cream pail, along with a few marbles, let the kids squirt in some paint, cover and shake, shake, shake!!

  4. Home made play dough is great for kids motor skills and creative play. Giving each child their own lump of clay in a recycled butter tub to take care of is a good idea to minimize germ swap.

Finger weaving is a great way to introduce little ones to simple math and numbers.

Sock puppet making is fun and afterwards the children can put on a play.

In the summertime (if you have access to sidewalks) sidewalk chalk OR a bucket of water with paintbrushes is exciting...

    Good luck and have fun!!

  7. One really great idea that i loved in preschool was when my teacher brought in blue, red and yellow paints and put them into a metal pan with a big sheet of paper under it . Then she brought in metal marbles and put them in the paint. she had us stir around the paints with marbles and the she took out the paper. The paper had different designs on it and it fascinated us. she had us stick our hands in it and press our hands on another sheet of paper. then she cut out our hand-prints and used a Popsicle stick to put in the middle and two craft eyes on it and it turned out to be a butterfly. It was the best craft we had ever done.
