I work at a YMCA and we have just recently switched over to pay bands. I was told that I was at the top of my pay band and I didn't get anything more. Then I noticed a job offering in one of our nieghbouring YMCA for my job but 2x's the amout of money. I feel really let down and disapointed. Is this even legal?? Anything I can do about it??

THANKS

  1. It is.

We are now all competing for the cash, "rank" doesn't matter, it's how you do your job against others in the same band.  Since there are only 3 bands, it's going to get interesting.

If you apply for a job else where within the pay band system, you can now negotiate your pay.  You don't have to take the first offer they give you.  That is the up side to it.

  2. In pay band system, the managers can set pay which may flucuate .

For example, in second band, the pay may be fixed any where between $ 128,253 to $ 560,405. So, in the same band, and in the same organisation, pay may vary in the same band.

But if you have beeen given in writing that you are on the top of the pay band and if some one is getting double than that in the same organisation, it is illegal.

Please address your concern to your employer, and get their reply, before you embark on next course of action .
