Month and a half ago dropping someone off at a house in a residential area. Turned my wheel so I wouldn't run into a parked car. Another car pulled along side me, were no other cars driving on road. We drove side by side and 'bumped'. I stopped & parked, she drove another few feet and parked and got out, leaving her dog standing in passenger seat. Don't think I hit her, says she didn't hit me. Legally, I would be at fault even if the dog was blocking her vision and she was pulling out at the same time.Got paper and pen ready, Sister came up talking about seeing the whole thing. Said I hit her sister. I asked, "Did I?" Sister wouldn't let me talk to driver. I asked to call insurance, they said no the driver had been hit at least 5 times before in that car by friends and insurance was too high. We exchanged numbers agreeing it was not 500 or more of damage. Today, was called and told it would be 1500-2500 dollars to repair the small dent in the door.

  1. You need a lawyer and remember he with the most expensive lawyer wins.

  2. i would have reported it, seems like something is going on there. Maybe that driver didn't have insurance on the car, it sure seems like it if you couldn't talk to the driver...

Don't pay $1500-2500 for that, there's no way a dent in the door is gonna cost that much. Definitely should have exchanged insurance information now, since its basically your word against hers now since you didn't report it or call insurance. Sounds like that lady is just fishing for more money out of you, seeing if you'll just fork it over. Don't do it, offer $500 or w/e you agreed on, and if nothing call insurance or talk to an officer about it.

edit: from what you just added, seems shes trynna get you to pay for previous damage. Point that out with insurance, definitely seems like shes trynna rip you off!

  3. Sorry to hear about that. The truth is that you should have called the police and got an accident report. That way, they would determine who was at fault and insurance would have took care of it.

So if you don't have an accident report or a witness, find a cheap lawyer and the next time the person contacts you, tell them to call your attorney. They will probably never push the issue again.

With me, this guy past me on the right and hit me while I turning right. He kept saying that I better have good insurance since it was my fault. I was young but not stupid so I said I was going to call the police and said he'd rather work out something between us. So basically I told him I was calling the police to get a report or to get arrested for beating the @#$! out of him. He left.

A week later, a friend of mine had an accident with what seems to be the same guy trying to get $$$$$.

    Good luck.
