I'm going to be helping a young girl with slight autism learn how to play volleyball. I'm used to helping kids in groups and not so much in a one on one setting, any hint/tips/tricks would be wonderful!

  1. Just teach her the basics you dont really need to do any drills as there arent really any drills for just one person.  just teach her the technique in a gradual way first without a ball and the work up to using the ball.  all she should do is have you toss her the ball and she will pass/set it to you.  you cann also teach her how to hit by starting with the basic aproach and leading up to you tossing the ball and her hitting it.  i know i dont need to say this but make sure she is do the technique the right way first before introducing the ball at all. well i hope you two have fun and Good Luck!

  2. Hey,

of course, the first steps to learn volleyball you can learn her by herself. Por example it´s important that she learns a good receiving the ball, a good service and the correct run-up for the jumps to the block or for the smashes. All these are things to learn that she can play volleyball later in a team.

I learned it by myself. In my fathers garden there was a big wall from our garage. I used it every day and so I learned more and more the feelings for the ball. Hope this help you a little. Sorry for my english but I try to learn it!!! Good luck with the girl!!!!

  3. I know many people that have cases of autism, the only thing i can recommend is be patient.  It may take them a while to understand the concept of what you are trying to help them with.

  4. You can toss the ball to her and work on the individual skills.  Until you can serve at her and spike at her.  Instead of coaching a group where the coach does not get involved, you will need to be part of every drill except serving since it will just be the two of you.

  5. Wow, that great that you are doing this

well you can start off by teaching them the starter poses (bump, spike, etc) and how to work as a team

    :]
