Im not 19 yet so I cant bring wine or anything, but we always bring something lame, like coffee.

On tuesday my family and I, (cousins, aunts, family friends etc) are having a Canada Day party and I need to bring something ORIGINAL. Not pop and chips because everyone will be bringing that.

Any awesome salad recipes would be great =]

Thanks alot

  1. How about nachos and dips?

Here's a layered dip I love to serve!

    Layer in large baking pan:

    cottage cheese on bottom

    your favourite salsa in middle

    shredded medium cheddar on top

Keep covered in fridge until needed.

Or you could bring a fruit salad or homemade coleslaw:

cut up into fine pieces or shred one head of cabbage

    shred 4 large carrots

add in about 2 cups raisins or currents

cut up fine, one bunch broccoli

Add coleslaw dressing (I use Kraft's), one small bottle is enough, mix well let sit overnight , covered, in fridge.

    AND HAVE FUN!

  2. FRUIT AMBROSIA

    2 c. heavy whipping cream

    1/2 c. sugar

    1 tsp. vanilla

    1/2 tsp. almond extract

1 large can mandarin oranges, drained

    1-2 cans fruit cocktail, drained

    1/2 c. coconut (optional)

    3-5 c. miniature marshmellows

Beat cream, sugar & extracts until very stiff peaks.  Fold in fruit & marshmellows .... Chill ... can do the day ahead.........This is one of our family's favorite side dishes (although I suppose you could also use it for dessert)

  3. bring edible arrangements its pretty, im sure everyone will eat it. and its not to cheap like chips or soda

they even have one called oh canada!

    good luck =]

  4. This is my favorite thing to bring to a gathering with a lot of people.  I make small pizzas on pita bread or naan bread (naan can be found at most trendy grocery stores, any indian grocery, or frozen at trader joe's).  Then just use different combinations of toppings or even sauces and cheeses.  You could do a mexican style, do some with alfredo sauce, do a thai style, etc.... One of my favorites is to just spread a vegetable tapanade on the bread and top with goat cheese, then bake until the cheese melts a little.  You can go simple for the kids and more sophisticated for the adults, and you can go as cheap as you want.  You can use a lot of stuff that tastes good at room temperature so you don't have to worry about traveling and reheating.  Then just cut each into fourths and shingle on a serving platter.  People will think you put a lot of thought into it, and it's as easy as making a pizza on pre-made bread.  Plus it's a lot of fun do think of new combinations and see what tastes good!

  5. Red and white salad:

Layer slices of tomato and mozzerella cheese (or sliced bocconcini) in a circular pattern on a plate.  Sprinkle with some diced red onion, oregano, balsamic vinegar and good quality olive oil.

    Happy Canada Day!
