Have a 5YO son in kindergarten.Currently a fulltime mom&wife, we always make sure we review his lessons at home and my son performs well with me.During school year's first quarter, my son was even included as one of the Top Students in their class. On the 2nd quarter, the time when their teacher was replaced by a new one, exam results started to fail and he was out of the Top Students. Now's their 3rd quarter and he's still failing. When I receive the test papers, I ask him the same questions and he knows all the answers. My husband complained and the teacher said it's my son who's not participating/performing in school. I wonder if he's given enough attention by this new teacher. I'm considering transferring him to another school or I don't know what else to do. I have faith in my son. I don't trust the teacher. Are my instincts right? What else should I do? Pls help... Thank you.

  1. I would talk with the teacher!-But go in with a positive attitude.

And, you do have the right to observe your child in school. Maybe you could go to his class and watch the interaction between students and teacher.

    Good luck!

  2. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the teacher without investigatin further. Why not set up a conference with him/her, so they can elaborate on where your son might be having trouble in school? Also, try to go in with an open mind instead of just complaining and being ready to jump down the teacher's throat. Really listen to see if there is something you could work on with your son.

  3. Hi! I am an aspiring preschool teacher (but in banking industry right now) and had undergone trainings... did some tutoring too. I learned that kids need good motivators-teachers. I dont have anything against the teacher as I dont know him/her, but maybe he/she isn't a good motivator. He/she isn't able to bring out the best in each of his/her student, your child included. Try to help. Motivate your child. Ignite his interest once more.Ask him if he wants to be transferred to other schools. Ask him what went wrong with his grades. If he cant answer you straight, then maybe he just lost his interest. Talk with other children's parents (those who are in the same class with ur son). Was it only ur son's performance that changed or was it the entire class'?Probe further but dont give other parents the hint that you are doubting the teachers capability to help enhance the intellectual capacity of ur son.The best thing though is talk sincerely to ur son what he wants and what will make him perform.Observe as well what motivates him.Don't just pluck him out of the class and bring him to another kindergarten coz it would mean adjustment to ur son and that you are not even sure if he will respond positively to such a move.
