We are going to be in Cancun Aug. 29th through Sept. 6 and staying at the Sun Palace. We are trying to decide what excursions to do prior to arriving. At the Sun Palace they give you several excursions including the Chichen Itza tour. Any suggesions on this tour or other tours that are a must see and do while in Cancun?

  1. IF you haven't seen it yet, watch Mel Gibson's Apocolypto movie before you go, and then take the trip to Chichen Itza--it's worth it.  Tripadvisor has good reviews of other things to see and do in Cancun.  Click the link below to read reviews of 80 atraction in Cancun.

  2. Yes definatley take the Chichen Itza tour, it gets really hot and humid so take light clothes. Also if you're planning to buy souvenirs as well as silver jewelry buy it there, it's really cheap.  As for Xaret, this is like a natural zoo type of place, not very much animals but it's really fun, you can swim at the underground river, which is really nice, snorkel, swim, and at the end of the day they have a good show. Tulum and Xe-hal are two trips, you can take both or just one.  Xe-hal is almost like Xaret, what you didn't have time to do in Xaret you can do in Xe-hal, I swam with dolphins for one hour in group for $120 and the pictures are $10 each or $80 for video.  The tour for Xe-hal is cheaper than Xaret.  Whichever tour you take, depending where you buy it, it always includes the meals and drinks.  A website that can more or less lists the tours is www.bestday.com and the prices are more or less the same.  Hope this helps and have fun

  3. Hi hun. I see you ask a lot of things about Cancún and I always answer your questions...lol...If you want send me an e-mail through here and I can tell you everything you need to know. I love it there and love helping people that are going.  First off if you haven't been there you are going to fall in love with Cancún. I did and even bought a condo down there right in the hotel zone on the beach I loved it sooo much.  A lot of answers you get I look at and some are right, but a lot of the people that give you answers are people that haven't been in awhile. I seen one answer to someone gave about a the bus fair saying it was around 50 cents US, but now it's like 70 cents US. Anyway... Oh by the way thanks for the best answer on your question regarding the weather. It will be very nice trust me. So, yes Chicen-Itza is an amazing site to see. It's basically a tour of the ancient Mayan ruins. The Mayans are the people that inhabited the Yucatan Peninsula many many years ago and also parts of Central America. They were the first to settle in what now is Cancún. It's basically like the pyramids of Egypt. It's really amazing to see what they created. It's like their own little city. It's very neat to see especially if you are into cultures and history. Even if you aren't it's still an interesting place to visit. Also, if you like Chichen-Itza try Tulúm. It also is Mayan civilization that is located right along side of the Caribbean Ocean and gives backdrops for some very nice photos. Other things I suggest that is a must is Ocean Runner Excursion/Jungle Tour. There are a couple Jungle Tour companies in Cancun, but Ocean Runner is the best by far. What you do is you get a sea-doo or a little speed boat (I suggest the sea-doos and they have one or two seaters) and you start on the lagoon side of Cancun and go through the lagoon and into the jungle then out into the Caribbean ocean out to a spot where you will stop and get off to snorkel.  But it's a 45 min. ride out to a spot where the tour guide will go with you and you then snorkel and see beautiful fish and the second biggest coral reef in the world. Great Barrier reef in Australia is first, this is the second biggest. You snorkel for 45 min. then you take the 45 min. ride back to the Ocean runner headquarters. It's so much fun and the sea-doos fly on the ocean and there are waves you can jump. Hold on though because you will go about 60 mph. and hit waves and get like 3 ft. of air. It's a blast.  Also, I recommend if you want to go out and get wasted is do the Party Hopper Tour. It's a drinking tour that starts like at 8 at night and goes till 4 in the morning. You pay like $65 and then you go with a tour led group of people and you get VIP access into three clubs and all your drinks are included in that price. So for 8 hours and anything you want to drink for $65 it's a great deal and a lot of fun. Also, you must go to Xel-ha and/or X-caret. Xel-ha (pronounced X ella). It's an ecological themed park where you can get in the water with dolphins and walk through what is like a rain forest. They have tropical birds such as macaws and all sorts of animals and little spider monkeys. It's beautiful and it's like being in a rain forest. Amazing!!! Another thing you must do which is awesome is do the Captain Hook Pirate Cruise Dinner Tour. There are two pirate ships (just like you see in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean) and you get on one of the two and both ships go out to sea in the Caribbean and on the way out you get a very good dinner. then on the way back in to port the two ships merge together and start a pirate fight show. They dock together and the actors swing from ship to ship fighting with swords and guns and fireworks go off...It's really awesome. It's like a real pirate fight. Very cool. I think that is around $65 also. If you like water type things like an underwater submarine or a boat with a glass bottom check out a place called Aqua World. It's really neat also. Most of these things can be booked at the hotel you are in. For example when I was a normal vacationer I would book from Funjet and when we arrived in Cancún they would be with us the whole trip. We got off the plane they took us to the hotel. In the hotel they had their own booth set up so if we wanted to book an excursion they were always there to help us. Most travel places have these now and I'm sure you booked through one, but just go to them and they will give you the info you need to know and set it up. Also, it's not a trip/excursion, but I recommend also checking out a place called Playa Cabana. Since you are a girl you will love it if you like getting pampered and taken care of. It's a s**y, sophisticated beach club and it's a lot of fun. It's very enjoyable.  I will give you a link to a myspace page I created for Cancún. When you are on it just click on anything you see and it will take you directly to that site for more info. I hope you have fun...I know you will. Cancún is a bl
