Need super-creative bedroom decor advice desperately...?

I have slanted ceilings eight feet long, and the straight part of the wall runs up three feet high. I have looked at murals, but they are never higher than eight feet, so I don't think they'd look right. I've considered everything and will either paint it all white with a white comfortor, or all black with a black comfortor. Please give me some decorating advice. Right now I have gold fish kites on the ceiling. Man, am I sick of staring at them. Save me from a decorating disaster if I go all black, which I naturally lean toward... ;)

  1. Yeah I think all black would be a big mistake. I once painted my room dark burgundy with black trim and even though the room got plenty of light, it was very depressing. All white is what I have now, but because I rent, not because it's my first choice. I think neutral colors are easiest to live with, though. Then if you want to have a black comforter, at least it will be offset by white walls. I used to have the Isaac Mizrahi for target Dot Matrix duvet set (this site won't connect to the link but go to Target.com and you'll find it under bed and bath) which I still think is really pretty and that would go with a black and white scheme. Or the "modern home pintuck comforter set in charcoal" on the Target site is also pretty and simple, without being as stark as black. If you want to be more creative with the ceiling, you could paint it blue or gray with clouds pretty easily and have the dark gray sheets. Dunno if that helps but I wish you luck.

  2. Not all black....... to dark to depressing. Hard to live with after awhile too! Why not white walls with a black comforter and black assesories.   or ..... start the murals at the top of the wall where the wall and ceiling meet at the bottom of the murals paint the wall a coordinating color  to the floor. (I'm trying to figure out whether you have a tent shaped wall or a barn shaped wall.   this idea is more for the barn shaped walls and ceiling.) If you had two matching murals that meet in the point of the ceiling and go down the opposite walls that might be kind of neat.... say it the mural was of an outdoor scene such as a forest or beach or something,  then paint a water scene at the bottom of the mural on the walls.........  It could be very relaxing!

  3. It sounds like your room is rather tent-shaped.  Why not go with that and create a jungle theme?  You could paint the walls with a camouflage pattern and hang vines all over the place.  Sisal rugs for the floor.  A huge stuffed gorilla?  You might put up a bamboo fence (from a garden center or catalog) along the straight part of the wall.

  4. If the mural you want to use has sky at the top, just paint the upper part of the room the same blue.  Take it to Home Depot and they will match the color.  Use a sponge with white to make more clouds.

  5. Not black.  I think you would regret that.

Have artistic talent, or perhaps a friend that does?  Challenge yourself or them to use their imagination and paint something relaxing for you.  Someone mentioned clouds - you could add to that with hot air baloons floating around and birds or tree tops.

    Could be very very relaxing.

The jungle idea was nice too, but I think I'd bore with that quickly as that too could turn "dark".

And yes.  Black & white.  You can never go wrong with that.  Your accent colors could be anything you desire.  All colors would work.  Or chrome.

Have fun with it and make it you.  Enjoy.
