  1. Sorry but i have to agree. you have to start on a long board.... if you don't want to but two expensive boards just buy a 2nd hand long board cause you wont be sticking to it... i recommend you go buy a G Force board (not to sure if you have them where ever you are) but this is what i get first timers to start out on. Its a long board but its not made out of fibre glass it has a protective outer lay so when you fall and hit the board it doesn't hurt. They are pretty cheap to. Good luck

  2. Longboard.

  3. if you get a short board i weigh 61kg and im 165cm in height...my board is 6 foot 2 inches tall,18and1/2 inches wide,2and3/8inches thickness....my best mates board 6"4' tall,19"wide,2 3/8'thick and he is 172cm and 75kg so my mates board would be good for you because thst 2 3/8 thickness gives you abit more boyancy in the water..like a mal..mals sit further out than short boards but if your short has that bit of thickness you can paddle faster which means you can sit out further and nowadays with pullout fins you can make it turn tight or loose depending on fins..mals are cool if you like to cruz but if you like to smash and carve a wave to shreds and get tight turns and big off the lip sprays and airiels well a fat *** mal isnt gonna cut it...i started out on pretty much same as what im riding now and ive been surfing since1988 at13yrs old now 31 and will surf till i die...

  4. ...i'd buy a longboard to start out with...

  5. I agree I would start with a long board, or a fun board around 8ft, something to build your confidence up and help you learn the basics before you start. The bigger the board you find the easier it well be to learn. I might even suggest you rent a board the first couple times if there is a place near by to see if you like it and what works best for you. Any good pro shop can help you size up a good board. But there is alot more to the board then just size, there the rocker of the board, the thickness, the rail shape, fin design and number of fins, weight and material the board is made of, different stringer design material and shape. You need to figure out what you plan to do with the board, do you want to nose ride, or do you want a fast performance board, there are just so many variables I would suggest visiting your local pro shop and taking to those guys, they will be very helpfull and welcome you to our sport!!!
