What is your budget and do you want to do it at your place or somewhere else? One idea, if you have the space, is to rent a projector, and set up a movie "theater" (use your couch, chairs, etc). Have designer invitations made or make your own. Tell all the guests to dress in formal wear (girls will particularly like this) for the "Premiere".  Have a camcorder with a handheld microphone (use a prop if you need to) and have someone interview the guests as they arrive (ask them about the bday girl) Play it up with fancy finger foods and gift baskets (think Oscar party)There are lots of ways you can play on that...maybe rent a limo to bring them to the red carpet???

I'm planning my sweet sixteen right now and I'm thinking of doing "Diamonds and Bling Think Pink and Green"  everyone has to dress in pinks and greens and semi-formal.  It all depends on your personal taste though you can incorporate your favorite colors into a theme and make it formal.
