The maximum gauge pressure in a hydraulic lift is 19.4 atm. What is the largest size vehicle (kg) it can lift if the diameter of the output line is 28.0 cm?

  1. I assume that by "output line" you really mean the "output cylinder"

    Force = Pressure x Area

    You have the diameter so you can compute the area.

    You have the gauge pressure - which is the pressure over and above atmospheric pressure so you don't have to subtract anything from that.

    So all that remains is to convert atmospheres of pressure to a nicer unit for comparison:
