  1. There are a lot of uncommon games.  People probably make up different rules all the time.  There was a question about Cowboy Billiards a few days back, and that was the first I've heard of that game.

For tournaments, 8 ball and 9 ball are the most popular.  10 ball will probably become increasingly popular though it's pretty new.  One pocket, straight pool, and bank pool are less common.  Trick shot tournaments are probably least common, but they are more widely known because of their TV exposure.

As far as tips go, I'd say maintaining a balanced stance, keeping your cue stick level (parallel to the table surface) and only moving from your elbow down when stroking the ball will get you off to a good start.  Always remember to chalk up and sometimes the best offense is a good defense.

  2. Control your breathing.It helps

  3. Billiards is played on a table with no pockets.  Pool is played on a table with pockets.  Pocket pool is something you may do in your spare time.  That thing people say "hit it high and hold it"  is actually not ture.  You can't make all 15 balls on a break.  You can't place one ball in front of each pocket and make all 6 in 1 shot, you can however make 6 balls in 1 shot.  An old man once told me to gain an advantage to always carry your own chalk and spit in the 1 on the table.  You can jump, but not scoop.  There is a magnet in a bar box and metal in the cue ball.  A red circle cue ball will not be returned unless playing on a dimond smart table with lazer system.  In most cases touching a nipple or t*t is not a good thing.  Bar league rules are the worst rules to play by.  And Willie Mosconi is a pool god.
