Question:

Need thoughts on moving a 4x8 all wood shed?

We are working with a tight space near an in ground pool. The shed sits facing the pool with the fence behind it. We are trying to move it to another property. Here are the issues. I expect I will have to remove the gate which is to the side of the shed and the section of fence directly behind it. Beyond the fence is a concrete driveway which is where I would like to have a trailer to put it on. Without renting expensive equipment I want to move the full structure from its current location onto a trailer. Then at the next property we will be moving it into the back yard which is only accessible from the side of the house (which is on a slope - and a pretty good one at that). I need thoughts on how to get it from the front of the new property to the back yard weighing in the slope issue. I am also interested in your thoughts of easiest ways to move it from current spot to trailer. The slab it is setting on now is approx 3 or 4" above that of the driveway. There is a possibility of backing the trailer right up to it and rolling it over pipes onto the trailer (I am hoping to find one lower to the ground to also help with off loading it at the next property).

Please do not just keep saying roll it over various types of cylindrical pipes as that is a given.

Any ideas of a smoother moving onto or off the trailer? Any ideas for getting it to the back yard at next place with that goes down and away from the house (not enough room for forklift). Does anyone know of a rental near Mesquite, TX that rents hand jacks like those you pump up and push or pull by hand that I might be able to use to lift and move this with???

Thanks.

  1. Is there anyway that you can take down the 4x8 shed?  Take down each side and the roof?  Sounds like that would be the best way to move it at the new place since there is a hill and side entrance.  Also this will save you from having to remove a section of fence at the current house.

  2. 4x8 is not that big... all that work for a little shed?.... wouldn't it be easier to just build a new one?... the shed is probably nailed or bolted to the foundation

  3. we had this dilemma a few years ago. We hired a wrecker truck to move it, they didn't want to at first, but did it and the move went perfectly. They used the big slings to wrap it and wench it along. (the shed was on wooden skids)
