I swatted it before I had a chance to observe it move around much but it almost seemed to jump instead of fly (though I could be wrong). The wings seem proportionally too small to be useful so maybe it does just jump. Across the room, I actually thought it was a spider but on closer inspection I would say it's a bizarre cross between a spider, fly, cricket and ant. Specifically, it had the head and wings of a fly, the body of an ant, the rear legs of a cricket and the overall appearance of a spider (all of the legs were rather long) The antennae were long and as thick as it's legs.

I actually kept the corpse and can e-mail a picture if my description doesn't cut it. I've lived in Arizona my entire life and have never seen such an insect. It's driving be BATTY not knowing what the heck it is.

  1. To me it sounds like The Great Black Wasp. Check it out. I also had a similar experience that I also kept the corpse and found it on What's That Bug.
