Comepletely unfinished basement with a cavelike crawlspace and vents galore + small bat = complete nightmare. Please help! Have not tried setting fruit out, will that help? I am looking for the most humane way to not only locate but catch this bat. Rabies info would also be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

  1. Don't even try to catch it!  Bats carry rabies. They may have no symptoms, but they can harbor the disease. I, too, love these creatures, and have gotten them in my house from time to time. All you have to do is leave the doors open to the outside.  They will use their "sonar" to find the opening.  Using fruit will not atttract them. They eat insects. Only a couple of species eat fruit, and they're in tropical countries.

Open the doors at dusk. They sleep all day, and forage at night.

  2. I love bats, they are interesting little creatures. So does my daughter, she has a luv4 bats email.

I don't think the rabies thing is a big issue, and they stay away from you. They are helpful. If you have a weird old basement,  they eat insects. If you build a little bat house, (on the web) you can get it in there. I think it would be cool, and I would keep him. Web site with bats in your home.
