Question:

Need to be full time student for health insurance?

I have to be enrolled as a full time student in order to keep my insurance. I currently am, but my classes run from Jan-mid-March (they are compressed because they are online)

Once March rolls around, will I no longer be considered a full-time student? Or since I took a semester worth of classes, will I still get to keep that insurance until Fall semester starts?

  2. Not to worry. If you are taking enough credits ( 12 or more) in the semester, you have fulfilled the requirement for your insurance. You need to be sure you do the same thing in the Fall, that's all. Don't worry about a thing. If the insurer asks for proof-you have it--your transcript.

  3. With most insurance companies, a full time student is considered to be so if they are enrolled year-round, with the exception of the summer terms.  Check with your school for how many hours / classes are needed to be considered full time.

Since each state and insurance carrier is different, I suggest to contact the customer service dept of the company.  The number usually is on back of the ID cards.

  4. I would think that it would hold you over until the next semester, but I really don't know (seeing as I will be starting college in the fall).
